THE FILM

A Modern Day Fairy Tale

May 4th, 2012 marked the beginning of "A Fanboys Tales' inception. It was conceived with the idea of bringing a camera to document the joy and excitement on the day "Marvel's The Avengers" film was released to the world. Cinematic history was made and fanboys and fangirls dreams came true all over the world. The movie was such an inspiration, it felt magical, and it illuminated a sense of wonder. It was in that moment, the concept of how "Fanboys" structure and story would be told was developed; drawing from those same feelings, and from the experience of something so fantastic, it was like a fairy tale.

Throughout "Fanboys" production, certain themes were integrated into the concept of it's story to reflect the business side of the industry and the nature of it's challenges, juxtaposed against the creative freedoms of the artists and storytellers that try to bring their vision to life within it. Concepts of some of the components of the industry were created to express the forms it could take, highlighting the positive and negative aspects of how and why films like "The Avengers" are made, the effect on those who create them, and those who aspire to do the same.

"A Fanboys Tale" was due to be released the following year in 2013, about 70 percent of it was complete, but due to life circumstances, production stopped indefinitely, resulting in over a 3 year hiatus.

In 2016, the desire to finish the film was back, but by then, the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) had evolved, and with everything that was going on in the world, the film needed to evolve too; becoming something more than what it was; it needed to make a statement.

In 2017, production on "A Fanboys Tale" was complete.

THE STORY

The Legacy

THE LEGACY

A Marvelous Inspiration

In October of 1931, Marvel Comics, originally known as Timely Comics at the time, was founded by Martin Goodman, a magazine publisher who was expanding from the world of western pulp, to the medium of comic books. Martin knew in order for the comics to have great success, he needed to enlist some of the best talents in that industry. From Jack Kirbys' gift of the imagination, to Stan Lees' gift in storytelling, Marvel went on throughout the years building a name for themselves, by not only creating some of the greatest superheroes of all time, but by creating an expansive universe that would plant the seeds of unlimited possibilities of their stories and how they were told; exploring more complex narratives for the heroes and their adventures, while influencing some of the greatest teams in comic book history i.e. X-Men, Justice League, and The Avengers.

As time passed, Marvel's universe in the comics had evolved, along with its fanbase, and it demanded something more from itself and its creators. By the early 90's into the new millennium, Marvel took things to the next level; evolving their medium from the page to the film industry.

Throughout their success, producer Kevin Feige and his team put their heads together and set out to evolve Marvel's legacy even further. In 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was born. From implementing the extraordinary talents of actors, writers, and filmmakers like Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, and Joss Whedon to the incredible artistry from the concept designers to the visual effects artists that bring the MCU to life; Marvel has set a new standard for the way movies are made and how their stories are told.

One can only imagine how the pioneers of the comics feel to see how their legacy has transcended; Reflecting on their aspirations from when they were kids, and dreaming about what they wanted to do and who they could be when they grew up; Maybe they dreamed of being able to fly...

Building a legacy that has grown to impact cultural mediums and captivate generations, in retrospect, Marvel is an example of a dream come true that has taken flight; and what Marvel's legacy represents are acts of passion, focus, hard work, and dedication with a magnitude of intangible expressions of love for the arts, a boundless appreciation for storytelling, and a salute to a legacy of the imagination that serves as an anchor, a motivator, and a beacon of inspiration that teaches the values in God given gifts to invest in what you love to do and the virtues of coming together to unite as a team; creating a generational and universal blueprint for the wide-eyed, dreambound kid in all of us.
